Organization Background
Blue Light Junction is an alternative color lab, natural dye garden & educational facility focusing on growing, processing and preserving the history of natural dyes and their enhancements and use in everyday objects.
Located at 209 McAllister Street in Central Baltimore’s Greenmount West neighborhood and working in Hidden Harvest “annex” dye garden, Blue Light Junction is an independently run studio that is working to support natural dye and craft global traditions and practices with a connection to place based education and research in Baltimore City and the surrounding metro area.

Position Details
The Garden & Studio Coordinator will support daily operations at Blue Light Junction, facilitating a range of activities that happen within the studio building and garden. The responsibilities of this position include maintaining a well-functioning studio, preparing for workshops and special programs, and welcoming visitors.
This role also supports Blue Light Junction’s adjoining Natural Dye Demonstration Garden. This involves routine maintenance of the garden, garden-related recordkeeping, processing and garden research, and assistance with BLJ interns and volunteers.
The Garden and Studio Coordinator reports to BLJ Director Kenya Miles, and works in collaboration with the Programmatic and Communication team.
SCHEDULE
The schedule for this position is 3 days a week for 5 hours, with 5 hours set aside for special programs, totaling to 20 hours/week. Included in these hours, the Garden & Studio Coordinator is required to work at least two Saturdays a month during garden volunteer hours from 10:00am - 3:00pm, to support and supervise garden volunteers.Hourly Wage: $ 19.23/hr
Hours: 20 hours weekly (max 40 hours/pay period)
Start Date: Week of September 9-14 ,2024

-Creative problem-solver who can work independently as well as in a team
-Proactive communicator who can assist with bridging communication between coworkers
-Strong interpersonal skills, comfortable interacting with the public
-An active community member, someone who can assist BLJ with building partnerships
-Highly organized, coachable, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks at once
-Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Zoom, Google Drive, Canva, Adobe platforms are a bonus.
-Experience in studio facilitation and support as well as gardening, craft, textiles, fiber and/or natural dye knowledge is preferred

Duties and Responsibilities
Studio Maintenance & general organization :
-Daily tasks include: General Cleaning, Indigo vat maintenance, organizing the studio, tools, and workshop materials
-Coordinate daily & weekly tasks and maintain the studio calendar
-Communicate studio schedule and needs to the rest of the BLJ team
-Welcome visitors, instructors, volunteers, and lead occasional toursSupport and Assist artist in residence through the Ibura Art & Research Residency
Assist with project based dye production for community & workshops
Facilitate, setup and breakdown of events and programs at Blue Light Junction
Provide support and guidance to the BLJ interns and volunteers
Studio improvements: Work with the Blue Light Junction Team to improve the organization, flow and accessibility of the studio
Maintain a clear and detailed inventory of items related to the garden (such as seeds and dried plants) as well as studio materials (such as dyes, fabric, equipment, supplies etc.)
Take photos/videos to support social media weekly campaigns and bi-monthly newsletter .
Processing and fulfillment of seed orders and track inventory.
Support online/onsite sales and the concept store during events.
Garden Maintenance:
Garden tasks include:
Indoor and outdoor watering, starting seedlings, transplanting, harvesting seeds and plants at maturation, processing and properly storing plant materials, weeding, managing garden pests
Maintaining a welcoming environment in and around the “Annex” dye garden
Identification, research and record plants in the garden in support of crop plans for dye/medicinal plants & native and pollinators plants.
Keep a well organized record of the Garden season planning/calendar
Support volunteer days and events in the “Annex” dye garden
Maintaining fluid communication and healthy partnership with Baltimore GreenSpaces and Hidden Harvest as well with the local neighbors and members of the community
Support indigo processing including wet indigo extraction & Sukumo
Garden Improvements: Work with the BLJ team and local partners to optimize resources for garden maintenance and execute improvements

Garden Coordinator Job Summary
This role supports Blue Light Junction’s adjoining demonstration garden and garden research, care and engagement as part of the studio’s mission to offer educational programming and community outreach. The Garden Coordinator is also responsible for garden-related recordkeeping, support for the work of BLJ interns and volunteers, and assistance with educational programming and product development at the studio. The garden coordinator reports to BLJ Director Kenya Miles, alongside coordination with the Processing Manager and Program Manager.

Program/Operations Coordinator@ Blue Light Junction
Blue Light Junction seeks to hire an organized and detail-oriented program/operations coordinator for part-time employment, beginning in Summer 2023. This will be a hybrid position with some work to be done remotely, some to be done on-site at Blue Light Junction in Baltimore, MD. Program/Operations Coordinator Job Summary
This role supports educational programming, community outreach, in-house studio rentals, general operations at BLJ and managing the artist-in-residency program at Blue Light Junction. The Program/Operations Coordinator reports to BLJ Director Kenya Miles, and coordinates with the Studio/Garden Coordinator and Processing Manager.

Program/Operations Duties and Responsibilities
•Coordinate and create social media postings for all events at BLJ (including developing and sustaining a quarterly newsletter)
•Manage all inquiries about workshops or programming at BLJ (excluding those associated with Alternative Color Lab)
•Create events, exhibitions and experiences in collaboration with the Director & Studio/Garden Coordinator
•Create educational curriculum in collaboration with Director & Studio/Garden Coordinator
•Collaborate with Studio/Garden Coordinator to support studio based events and experiences
•Research funding possibilities including grants, investments and partnerships (informally)
•Work with BLJ Director to create BLJ's Alternative Library
•Conduct outreach and develop relationships and partnerships with community, restaurants, and artists in the Baltimore and DMV area
•Support the organization and operation of systems within BLJ + Studio Blue w/Director

The Ibura Art & Research Residency (IARR) is a biannual residency hosted by BLJ
During Residencies (starting spring 2024):
•Provide ongoing administrative support for resident artists
•Support IARR Resident application + jury process
•Coordinate and publicize residents' community workshops
