In conjunction with BLJ’s Return of the Resident’s Exhibition, former Ibura Art & Research Resident Diego Borgsdorf Fuenzalida (DBF) is hosting an evocative workshop, Crystalline Afterlives: Salt as Material, Salt as Method
In this two-day hands-on workshop, salt becomes more than just a seasoning—it transforms into a critical artistic material with infinite possibilities. Participants will explore how crystallization can shape texture, form, and meaning in both art and craft, while also engaging with big questions about material (after)life, transformation, and time.
Led by artist Diego Borgsdorf Fuenzalida (DBF), you’ll gain insider access to his groundbreaking experiments in “salt sculpture.” Through guided exercises, you’ll learn brine-making, textile-generation techniques, and experiment with crystallization firsthand.
By the end of the workshop, each participant will complete their own woven textile salt sculpture sample—a truly one-of-a-kind piece that reflects the slow, alchemical work of salt.
No prior experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
