In the first part of the series, in this three-day workshop, students will create a palette of multi-dimensional autumnal color, gaining a deep understanding of the relationship between tannins, mordants, dyes, exhaust baths, and post-dye modifiers on cellulose (plant) fiber.

Intro to Indigo and Quilting with Rosina Saqib

5-SESSIONS WORKSHOP (1st Session March 7th)
PAID WORKSHOP - REGISTRATION REQUIRED

In this 5-part series, students will learn to dye cotton fabric with indigo. Natural dyer and quilter Rosina Saqib will guide the group to build a tonal palette of blues through multiple dips in the indigo vat. She’ll discuss the different types of vats and how to care for and maintain a successful indigo vat at home.
The student will complete the class by learning how to hand-quilt our machine-pieced fabric, covering beginner-friendly methods of hand-tying the quilt to more intricate hand-stitching. Students will leave with a finished quilted pillow top or square.

Exploring Light, Form, and Material: Inviting Conversation with La Loupe
Baltimore-based artist Jorgelina López will share her creative journey from textiles to lighting design, as well as the collaborative beginnings of La Loupe. Through images, stories, and a hands-on mini light demo that explores materials, Jorgelina will reflect on how materials transform when illuminated and how light shapes our most intimate spaces.
