Worn Histories: Designing & Making of the West African Smock with Jordan Jackson

In this workshop, you'll learn minimal-waste patterning and traditional West African tailoring techniques, designing and sewing your own garment from start to finish — leaving with a finished piece, a reference guide, and new skills to carry forward.
Alchemy of Color with Rosina Saqib (3-day Workshop)

Teaching artist, quilter, and natural dyer Rosina Saqib is offering a two-part workshop series on quilting with naturally dyed fabric. Designed as two complementary learning experiences.
In the first part of the series, in this three-day workshop, students will create a palette of multi-dimensional autumnal color, gaining a deep understanding of the relationship between tannins, mordants, dyes, exhaust baths, and post-dye modifiers on cellulose (plant) fiber.

The Art of Indigo w/Rosa Chang

In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the process of making a natural sugar-based indigo vat and practice two traditional East Asian textile techniques, stitched shibori and soy flour paste resist, and create two indigo dyed fabric pieces featuring a range of indigo shades and intricate patterns.
Bouquet Making: Sharing Spring Blossoms

A hands-on floral workshop that highlights seasonal flowers, local farms, and the act of sharing beauty within a community. Feral Hues: A Weedy Watercolor Workshop

Ellie Irons will be hosting a workshop at Blue Light Junction and we invite you to participate in this hands-on experience creating and painting with watercolor paints from regionally-sourced wild and weedy plants.
An artist talk and demo on making plant-based watercolor paints will be followed by an opportunity to experiment with the process in small groups. Responding to Ellie's ongoing project Feral Hues on Estuarial Fill, throughout the workshop we’ll focus on the naturalcultural stories of plants whose green habitats are heavily impacted by human activities
Intro to Indigo and Quilting with Rosina Saqib
5-SESSIONS WORKSHOP (1st Session March 7th)
PAID WORKSHOP - REGISTRATION REQUIRED
In this 5-part series, students will learn to dye cotton fabric with indigo. Natural dyer and quilter Rosina Saqib will guide the group to build a tonal palette of blues through multiple dips in the indigo vat. She’ll discuss the different types of vats and how to care for and maintain a successful indigo vat at home.
The student will complete the class by learning how to hand-quilt our machine-pieced fabric, covering beginner-friendly methods of hand-tying the quilt to more intricate hand-stitching. Students will leave with a finished quilted pillow top or square.

We are inviting everyone to participate in the launch of the BLJ fundraising campaign for 2026 with a $25 Donate & Dye Indigo Community Vat.
The rest of the studio will be open throughout the evening from 5 to 9 pm. Visitors are welcome to visit Studio Blue on the 2nd floor, where you will find a collection of crafted objects, our library space, and artist studios.

Welcome in the Lunar New Year through creativity, light, and tradition. Paper flower lantern making is a meaningful cultural practice, rich with symbolism—honoring renewal, intention, and new beginnings for the year ahead.

Join artist and educator Trisha Gupta for our last workshop of the year: a hands-on exploration of traditional Indian woodblock printing — a practice rooted in centuries of artistry, storytelling, and cultural preservation. Guided by Trisha, participants will learn the fundamentals of block printing using hand-carved wooden blocks and indigo print paste. They will learn to create layered patterns, connect with the stories behind the motifs, and reflect on the threads that shape textile practices around the world.

Exploring Light, Form, and Material: Inviting Conversation with La Loupe
Baltimore-based artist Jorgelina López will share her creative journey from textiles to lighting design, as well as the collaborative beginnings of La Loupe. Through images, stories, and a hands-on mini light demo that explores materials, Jorgelina will reflect on how materials transform when illuminated and how light shapes our most intimate spaces.
