Small Techniques Winter 2026: with Kenya Miles & Special Guests
Have you ever wanted to explore more deeply various techniques and processes in your practice? Do you have ideas your hoping to elevate with new skills? Is your work asking to be bigger and more rooted in connection to histories and cultural practices? Are you hoping to explore in a collaborative space with like minded creatives? SMALL TECHNIQUES is an opportunity to learn, experiment, and connect—whether through dyeing, weaving, material transformation, or process-driven craft. Together, we explore how technique holds memory, how materials carry history, and how small-scale practices open expansive creative possibilities. The Winter season features workshops led by Kenya Miles and four invited facilitators, each offering a unique approach to material exploration and craft-based techniques.
Open to all experience levels.
WHO THIS IS FOR
Artists who want to build technical skill with depth, not speed
Craft-curious makers hoping to expand beyond their main discipline
People interested in the story of materials, not just the outcome
Artists who value small, slow, grounded making
Those seeking a seasonal, cohort-based learning model (not drop-in workshops)
SMALL TECHNIQUES is a seasonal class series for artists, makers, and cultural workers interested in expanding their technical skills while engaging deeply with the historical, cultural, and conceptual lineages of craft. Each session pairs hands-on making with thoughtful context, inviting participants to slow down, work intentionally, and explore material curiosity.
Rooted in intergenerational and culturally grounded traditions, the series emphasizes:
Dimensional thinking (moving from 2D → 3D forms)
Intimate scale and slow process
Heritage, tradition, and material memory
Cross-disciplinary skill building
Culturally rooted and community-centered craft practices
Participants join the full series to build continuity, learn collectively, and develop layered understandings over time.
