Backstrap Loom Weaving
Backstrap Loom Weaving with Hellen Ascoli
This backstrap loom workshop offers students an accessible introduction to weaving. Prior to the workshop, each student will design their warp, which will be prepared and set up by Hellen.
Over two 6-hour workshop days, students will focus on developing confidence with the tension, posture, and rhythm that are unique to backstrap weaving. Participants will also learn and experiment with traditional pick-up pattern techniques using supplementary weft (brocade). By the end of the workshop, each student will leave with a woven sample cloth and a strong foundation for continuing their exploration of backstrap weaving.
