Kick off 2026 with the first Station North Art Walk of the year at Blue Light Junction as we celebrate Blue Valentine.
We invite you to enjoy a guided indigo dye experience led in the dye lab from 6-7pm during Art Walk. As part of our ongoing fundraising efforts, we’re offering this community indigo dye session as a way to support the studio through shared experience. Your participation will directly support our educational and community-based programming as well as general studio/garden operating efforts.
This hands-on gathering invites participants to refresh a beloved old item and transform it into something new, working directly with natural indigo and exploring basic dyeing and resist techniques.
Station North Art Walk runs from 5-9pm and is open to all. Feel free to spend time in Studio Blue’s Alternative Library, artists studios and Concept Store.

FAQ’s:
1) How many items can I bring to dye? You may bring one item to dye. Please be mindful of the thickness of the item you would like to dye as this is a community vat. Thicker materials such as knits and terry take up a large amount of dye. Garments and fabric should be no larger than a long sleeve shirt.
2) What kind of materials can I dye? We are open to experimental materials that will not disrupt the vats natural environment. Uncoated wood, natural bones, natural fibers.
3) Can I bring a large sheet, blanket, coat? No. In order to maintain the vats viability we ask that items be of reasonable size and thickness. Please email bluelightjunction@gmail.com if you have specific questions.
4) What will be provided during my session? We will have inspiration books, clamps, wooden items for resist, gloves, gallon plastic bag to hold wet item. There will not be time to stitch and dye within the hour. We encourage you to visit the Alternative Library in Studio Blue or search online to find stitch resist patterns to prepare your piece in advance.
5) What kind of vat will we be dyeing with? The 30 gallon indigo vat is made of ferrous sulfate (iron), calcium hydroxide, and organic indigo pigment.
6) I want to have a really dark indigo dyed piece? Indigo dye is a layering process. It can take up to 15 dips for very deep blues. Medium shades can happen between 3-5 dips. A one hour community session will likely allow for 1-2 dips.
