Intro to Indigo and Quilting with Rosina Saqib
A 5 class workshop (3 consecutive weekends)

Dates:

  • Saturday, March 07th & Sunday, March 08th

  • Saturday, March 13th & Sunday, March 14th

  • Saturday, March 21st

Time: 10 am-3 pm

Artist: Rosina Saqib

Cost: $350-400 Sliding Scale

Location: 209 McAllister Street, Studio A, Baltimore, MD 21202

Description: In this 5-part series, students will learn to dye cotton fabric with indigo. Natural dyer and quilter Rosina Saqib will guide the group to build a tonal palette of blues through multiple dips in the indigo vat. She’ll discuss the different types of vats and how to care for and maintain a successful indigo vat at home.

Using the freshly dyed fabric, students will plan a 20” x 20” quilted pillow top or quilt square that will be machine pieced and hand-quilted. We’ll examine the different ways to approach quilting, from traditional to improvisational interpretations. We’ll use strip quilting as a starting point to design and plan your quilt square.

The student will complete the class by learning how to hand-quilt our machine-pieced fabric, covering beginner-friendly methods of hand-tying the quilt to more intricate hand-stitching. Students will leave with a finished quilted pillow top or square.

Consider paying this amount if doing so would be an investment, but not create hardship for your household. You might choose this rate if you are able to regularly meet your basic needs and have some expendable income, can travel every couple years without burden, and have some debt but are able to pay it regularly. This is the true cost of a session.

$400

Please consider paying this amount if you are comfortably able to meet your basic needs, own the home you live in, have paid or pay for private education, travel recreationally, have access to financial savings and/or investments, have reliable work or do not have to work to meet your needs, have inherited wealth, and/or have increased earning privilege due to your race, gender, or education. This rate sustains me in working with folx who need a lower rate.
