Naturally Dyed Tatreez Workshop

from $85.00

Join artists Hannah Atallah and Kenya Miles for a hands-on workshop where you will explore the intersection of natural dyeing and traditional Palestinian embroidery, known as tatreez.

In this immersive session, participants will:

  • Naturally dye their own embroidery floss using madder, with materials provided by BLJ

  • Learn about the history and cultural significance of tatreez

  • Stitch a motif to take home, using traditional techniques and personal expression

Each participant will leave with an extra skein of madder-dyed floss, tools, their motif from class, and the foundational skills to continue their tatreez journey beyond the workshop. No prior experience is necessary—just curiosity and a love for textiles, culture, and community!

Date: Sunday, May 18th, 2025

Time: 10am -2:30 pm

Duration: 4.5 hours

Artist: Hannah Atallah & Kenya Miles

Cost: $85-125 Sliding Scale

About our sliding Scale

$85

5 spots

Consider paying this amount if you have limited expendable income, have little or no access to financial support from family, have significant debt, and little or no access to savings. This is a discounted rate.

$105

5 spots

Consider paying this amount if doing so would be an investment, but not create hardship for your household. You might choose this rate if you are able to regularly meet your basic needs and have some expendable income, can travel every couple years without burden, and have some debt but are able to pay it regularly. This is the true cost of a session.

$125

5 spots

Please consider paying this amount if you are comfortably able to meet your basic needs, own the home you live in, have paid or pay for private education, travel recreationally, have access to financial savings and/or investments, have reliable work or do not have to work to meet your needs, have inherited wealth, and/or have increased earning privilege due to your race, gender, or education. This rate sustains me in working with folx who need a lower rate.

Thanks to Orion Johnstone and Worts & Cunning + Sun English for the language for supporting & articulating sliding scale.

“Some Kind of Blue” at Studio Blue (concept store upstairs) will also be open for browsing and shopping.
